Fox Sports Northwest Features Wicks & Speed Record

Bellevue, WA (June 12, 2000)-- Fox SPORTS NORTHWEST will be featuring the World Water Speed Record for a propeller driven boat during the Wednesday debut of their '"11 PM REGIONAL SPORTS REPORT".

The "Sports Report gives Northwest viewers 30 minutes of sports news coverage seven nights a week.  "11 PM REGIONAL SPORTS REPORT" plans to offer viewers in the Northwest more in-depth sports news, features, analysis and highlights than any other network.

FOX Sports Net is unveiling the most ambitious project in its networks history.  On June 14, the Bellevue-based FOX Sports Net regional known for televising the Seattle Mariners, Sonics, Washington, Washington State, Oregon and Oregon State games, is using its resources to create a sports news show, the 11 PM REGIONAL SPORTS REPORT.

"There is a huge void in the daily coverage of our hometown teams and local sports scene," said Clayton Packard, FOX Sports Net Vice-President/General Manager.  "11 PM REGIONAL SPORTS REPORT is geared to Northwest sports fans who want more than three minutes of local sports coverage.  We will have unparalleled news coverage of local teams like the Mariners, the Sonics, the Seahawks and the Huskies."

The Bellevue-based FOX Sports Net regional seems perfectly set up to do that.  The network already reaches more than 2.5 million viewers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Montana.  And FOX Sports Net has already had great success televising another sports news show, NORTHWEST SPORTS TONIGHT, weekdays at 7 p.m.

By adding 11 PM REGIONAL SPORTS REPORT, FOX Sports Net is now able to give viewers all the highlights, scores and stories of the night right after its live game coverage.

"This was the missing piece to our sports coverage, " said Packard.  "Now viewers can tune in to NORTHWEST SPORTS TONIGHT to find out the big games of the day, watch our Mariners telecast and then wrap up the night by watching scores and highlights of games in the Northwest and across the country."

Anchoring the 11 PM REGIONAL SPORTS REPORT are Tom Glasgow and Rod Simons.  Glasgow is a well-known sportscaster in the Seattle area.  He has anchored NORTHWEST SPORTS TONIGHT for the last three years and recently broke the story that Lenny Wilkens was offered the Washington Wizards head coaching job.  In addition to his anchoring duties, Glasgow also is the studio host for shows such as MARINERS WARM-UP, SONICS TIP-OFF and SONICS PRIME TIME.

Simons, a three-time Emmy winning journalist, returns to the Northwest television scene after a year absence. Simons won three Emmys and a Gabriel award for sports reporting as the anchor for KSTW-TV (CBS/UPN) from 1986-98.  He was also an interim sports anchor for KOIN-TV (CBS) in Portland last year.  Since then, Simons has been working for the Seattle-based web site, seasonticket.com.
