Superior Racing, based in Seattle, Washington, competes on the Unlimited Hydroplane Racing tour. Founded in 1993 by Dr. Ken Muscatel, the team first campaigned the hull of a former Winston Eagle with Muscatel behind the wheel. In 1997, Superior Racing joined with Northwest Unlimited Motorsports on the U-14 (former T-Plus) entry. The following year, the combination captured their highest race finish - second place in the Indiana Governor's Cup in Madison, Indiana.
In 1999, Northwest Unlimited co-owner Rick Campbell built a brand-new hull, the current U-25 Miss Freei. Out of only four events last season, the U-25 hull qualified for the final heat on three occasions. For 2000, and the World Water Speed Record attempt, the boat features a number of advancements to the skid fin, rudder assembly, drivetrain, intake cowling, canards and cockpit, as well as other refinements.
